The Probabilty of there being an Intelligent Designer
by cantleave ini have been thinking a great deal about where i stand at this moment in time in terms of a belief in a creator verses a belief in an evolutionary process.
i think the best way to describe it is an exploratory path.
i look at what is around me and i acknowledge it is remarkable.

I've heard Behe speak. His case, even shortened to about an hour, is compelling.
The problems with macroevolution are many, as are the problems with religious philosophies.
But as was brought out, the discussion is philosophical, not scientific. Why? Because even if you proved every single step of evolution of every single life form on earth, the question of whether evolution was brought about by design remains.
There is no answer; nobody's going to win this argument. Time to get over ourselves and let people put faith in whatever works for them.

The Chain Of Command!
by wannabe inthe chain of command!.
is it not true, that any of the twelve apostles of christ could have made the claim to being the 'faithful and discreet slave' of the parable in matthew 24:45, and as such could have claimed to being god's organization,' god's channel of communication,' 'god's spirit directed organization?
it was a revelation for all of the slaves at that time.

There doesn't need to be a resurrection to earthly life in order for there to be subjects of the Kingdom living on earth.
Look around. There are ALREADY SEVEN BILLION people here. Even supposing the Big A takes out 6.5 billion, you still have 500 million people here for the kingdom to rule over. What's the need to resurrect people into new physical bodies? And more importantly, where is there ANY scriptural evidence that such a thing is to occur?

Twilight movies
by darnkid indoes anyone know exactly what the society has said on the twilight movies?
is it a matter of conscience or a real no-no?
my children are witnesses, i am df'd so i can't say anything, but one of them indulges in these movies and books-the baptized one who won't visit me or talk to me unless absolutely necessary.

The borg doesn't name specific movies because they can't possibly name all the ones they think are the devil.
I would think that the body of elders in her congregation would strongly frown on her seeing such films and reading such books. Vampires are the devil. And worse, they drink BLOOD.
Someone would be counseled on such entertainment and if they showed a bad attitude about it, then real trouble could result.
So yeah, any JW who claims to follow the borg should know better.

My advice (as someone still trapped IN) is just don't go. Let them make whatever decision they want to make but don't submit to their man-appointed authority. She's going to be DFd either way, so she might as well walk away with her own dignity.
I know I will NEVER sit for a JC.

There are a couple ways I'm thinking about God lately. I haven't decided on which I like better but both of them help me reconcile things a bit.
One, God might not exist within our universe; he is outside it, holding it in his hands so to speak. Where he came from isn't really relevant to our universe because he's not from here; he's of completely different origins that we can't possibly comprehend.
Or Two, God might exist within everything in the universe. He didn't create everything apart from himself; he IS everything. Where he originated is as much a mystery as where the matter and energy of the supposed big-bang originated but again, it's not that important.

How could they be a menace to themselves but not to society? Are they not members of society?

Inactive = D/F in 3 Years
by Simon Morley inis it true that there is a now policy that if you are inactive and not attending meetings that after three years you will be d/f'd?
i have a friend who is very concerned that this is now policy.
can any shed some light?.
-
Mad Sweeney
I don't think the 3-year thing is a policy as much as it is simply a fact of life. Sooner or later a fader is going to do something they can use to DF him/her, and sooner or later the brothers are going to find out about it and attempt to tie up the loose ends.
Unless you move and nobody in JW-land knows you where you have gone.

Zeitgeist - anyone for a discussion?
by Shawn10538 ini am starting a sort of campaign to get this movie distributed and have as many people as possible get exposed to it.
the documentary is in 3 parts.
part one deals with the pagan mythological origins of bible myths, part 2 is about 9/11 and supports the theory that the towers were demolitioned and part 3 deals with the federal reserve agressive take over in the 1920s by international bankers.
-

I thought Leolaia's conclusion was pretty obvious: the Zeitgeist film's conclusions are based on crappy research and therefore, though the Jesus myth may be based on earlier myths, the film's weak scholarship can't be counted upon to solidly make that point. A documentary movie that has but a handful of sources, all of them secondary and none of them primary, is merely a cute little movie, not something to base one's serious viewpoint on.

I would like for the Russian opposers' claims to be more specifically enumerated so that those in the west could see a detailed breakdown of what is most objectionable about the WTS.
